Corinthians pull out of deal for Manchester City's Carlos Tevez

The Sao Paulo giants have decided to cease discussions of a move for the Argentine striker, due to the clubs being unable finalise the deal before Brazil's transfer deadline.

Corinthians have announced the end to negotiations for the transfer of Manchester City's Carlos Tevez.

Despite City manager Roberto Mancini claiming that a deal reportedly worth around €40 million (£35.1m) had been made on Monday, a formal statement from Corinthians has now confirmed that the transfer has fallen through.

Corinthians deny Tevez deal

Corinthians have denied reports that they have reached an agreement with Manchester City over the signing of striker Carlos Tevez.
City boss Roberto Mancini claimed on Monday morning that City had accepted an offer from the Brazilian club, but Corinthians president Andres Sanchez insists no deal has been done.
A statement from the club read: "Because of news reports this morning of an agreement between Corinthians and the striker Carlos Tevez, president Andres Sanchez is keen to clarify that Manchester City has not accepted Corinthians' offer for the player.
"In fact, [City] sent a counterproposal, which, due to the time difference, has only just reached the Corinthians board this morning. In the counterproposal, the Premier League club asks for changes in the form of payment and also in the total value of the transaction.
"Finally, the president Andres Sanchez advises that there is no concrete agreement with Tevez at this time and the counterproposal will be analysed by him and the board."
Tevez's agent Kia Joorabchian remains hopeful a deal will be agreed before the Brazilian transfer window closes on Wednesday.
"There is no agreement at the moment but we are working hard and we will see what happens," Joorabchian told BBC Sport. "The deal has not been done and I don't want to say too much either way. To say I am optimistic would be just a guess but we are working hard."
If a deal is struck to take Tevez back to the club he won the Campeonato Brasileiro with in 2005, City are likely to target Atletico Madrid forward Sergio Aguero as a replacement.

Carlos Tevez saga continues as Corinthians make new bid

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez

Brazilian side Corinthians have made an improved offer for Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez.
Earlier this week they failed in a £35m offer for the want-away Argentine striker and are understood to have come back with a £39m bid.
"I do know there has been an increased offer," Tevez's representative Kia Joorabchian told BBC Sport, "but the bid only went in on Friday and it's very early stages."
City want close to £50m for Tevez.
They are determined not to be rushed into a deal, but were it to go ahead manager Roberto Mancini would then pursue his interest in Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero.
City believe they are in a powerful position as they are under no financial pressure to sell and Tevez is still locked into a long-term contract believed to be worth in excess of £200,000 per week.
So Corinthians' latest offer may still not be enough to persuade City into selling the 27-year-old, who last season captained them to the FA Cup and a place in the Champions League.
The Brazilians, backed by revenue from a new television deal, want to make Tevez a landmark signing by taking him back to the club where he previously enjoyed success.
Moving to South America would also help solve Tevez's problem of being separated from his family.
If he does go, his 23-year-old fellow countryman Aguero, who is rated at £45m by Atletico, is regarded as a natural replacement.
But City will not make a move for him until Tevez's future is clarified.
